WHAT IS FPPA? FPPA is a professional
organization with the objective of forming closer relationships
among the various public personnel agencies within the State of
Florida.
HOW
IS FPPA ORGANIZED? The Executive Board consists of a
President, President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary,
Academy Director, and Immediate Past President. Individual and
Agency members are able to vote for the members of the board.
WHO
IS ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP? Membership is open to
individuals who are actively engaged in some phase of governmental
personnel management and representing management in the State of
Florida. There are categories for agency, individual,
associate, student, and retiree members.
WHAT
ARE THE BENEFITS OF BELONGING TO FPPA?
Members have the opportunity to interact with others in the profession
for the purpose of sharing information. They receive a newsletter
with up-to-date information on what is happening in the field,
notices of regional training seminars, and are provided an opportunity
to attend a yearly training conference. The FPPA website is provided
at no charge to members as a valuable information resource. FPPA
also provides access to Florida's largest public-sector salary
and benefits surveys for its members.
WHEN
ARE MEETINGS HELD?
The state is divided into 9 regions. Regional
Coordinators are assigned to each region and are responsible for
planning and coordinating seminars throughout the year. The annual
conference is held toward the end of July.
HOW
MANY MEMBERS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE ORGANIZATION?
As of July 2002, there were 661 members. The board has made increasing
membership by 10% per year one of its goals.
WHAT
IS THE BREAK DOWN BY TYPE OF AGENCY OF THE MEMBERSHIP?
41% of members are from city governments and 41% are from county
governments. The county agencies include sheriffs' departments,
airport authorities, etc. 11% are from authorities such as water/fire
management districts and 4% fall into other categories.
WHAT
IMPACT DOES THIS ORGANIZATION HAVE ON PERSONNEL/HUMAN RESOURCES
ISSUES IN THE STATE?
Because of the network developed among members, we are able to
share information in a timely manner so that appropriate legislators
can be contacted. This provides the organization the ability to
influence legislation which affects our operations. FPPA has a
legislative liaison in Tallahassee to inform members of late breaking
activities of concern to our membership.
